At the time of writing, this is the longest item I have ever knitted. Unblocked, it is measuring in at over eight feet long. I really need to block it though, because it is a beautiful lace-ish pattern.
If you want the details, including a link to the pattern I used, you can check out my Ravelry page. I put everything there. This was an excellent project for a beginner. It is quite pretty to look at, and no one will realize how easy it actually was!

What I learned
I definitely need more practice when it comes to following patterns. I am forgetful and tend to go onto autopilot pretty easily...which sucks. I ended up tinking a good six rows all together of this one. Stitch markers and focus are needed.
This yarn is beautiful, but weird. The blue-teal sections are very tightly spun while the red-brown bits are practically roving. It made things a bit tricky for this novice, but after a foot or two I was used to it.
I am shit at estimating. I bought two skeins of this stuff...and I only used the one. I have no idea what I'll do with the other...maybe I'll make a shawl or something?
This gave me a taste for lace. Lace looks hard. But I might give it a go.
